A seasonal moisture-cycling signature generally needs at least one full wet-to-dry cycle to show clearly, which is roughly a year; a storm-driven drainage pattern can show after a single significant rain event; a slow compaction-driven trend is easiest to see after several months of consistent measurement. That is common, not a sign the monitoring failed — more than one cause is often present at once, and their signatures can blend. A mixed or ambiguous pattern is itself useful information for the engineer doing the assessment, not a dead end.
The repair method is driven primarily by the extent and severity of movement and the soil conditions found in the assessment, not directly by which of these causes is at work — but an unaddressed ongoing cause (active drainage problem, active leak) is typically corrected alongside a structural repair, or the repair can be undermined by the same condition that caused the original movement.
